Liquid Silicone Rubber "expands" product line. (Materials).

An expanded product line from CRI-SIL, a division of IMMIX Technologies, includes Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) and platinum-cured Room Temperature Vulcanization (RTV) products. The materials are used for the manufacture of an assortment of products from molds to infant care articles, connectors, adhesives, encapsulants, cell phone and PDA covers, O-rings, gaskets, and scuba gear. Products are designed for the aerospace, health-care, electronics, consumer, and automotive markets.

Offered in a hardness range of 5 to 80 Shore A and a viscosity range of 1000 to 7 million cps, the LSR and RTV compounds are available in small-batch and large-batch custom formulations; the cure rate is varied to optimize cure efficiencies and extend shelf life, and batches can be custom colored. CR1-SIL says its low-volatile, ultra-clear,, LSR compounds are compliant with U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Article 21, and are suited for applications in which purity, aesthetics, soft touch, and anti-shock properties are desired.

The company reports that its line of LSR products offers benefits to manufacturers because of reduced cycle times, flash-free parts, no post cure, and no mold fouling. In some cases, LSRs are said to have reduced cure times, with a CRI-SIL cure package, from as much as 10 minutes to less than 30 seconds. Benefits of the RTV products are reported to be higher tear strengths in a wide durometer range.
