The criteria for selecting a dive boat should not only focus on the boat's schedule and price but should also include its safety features and amenities. Safety equipment such as life jackets, fire extinguishers and a radio should be standard in dive boats. In addition, divers should verify if the boat is certified by the Coast Guard. Other necessary features of safe dive boats are first aid equipment for decompression sickness, ample drinking water and ascent/descent lines.
