The authors describe how to manage a diving emergency and give guidelines for prevention, equipment use and maintenance, emergency assistance plans and evacuation, emergency recognition, resuscitations, first-aid, and missing diver, surface, and underwater rescues. Orr is associated with the Divers Alert Network and has written several other books on the topic. Douglas, a diver, medical technologist, instructor, and master trainer, researches and develops dive safety programs.
