Life magazine photographer Peter Stackpole received the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA), Joseph A. Sprague Award. Stackpole led a long and distinguished career as a photojournalist. His other interests included scuba diving, which in turn led to the development of the Link-Stackpole Power-Diver, an underwater swimming device which could be used for underwater photography. Unfortunately, most of Stackpole's photographs were destroyed in a fire.
