Scuba diving is swimming done underwater with a breathing tool, by using minimum equipment. Underwater swimming and divine started with pearl divers and sponge divers, as skin diving became know for this type of underwater activity.
However, diving also evolved into fish hunting for food and coral hunting; seen with ornament collecting. This improved spear gun and photographic elements became the hallmark for this the study or underwater exploration.
Finally, Ocean floor and salvage work for scientific purposes used these mechanisms.
